Antarctica

I never thought about going to Antarctica. No airlines fly there, that I know of. Northwest doesn’t even fly to South America. Antarctica wasn’t even on my “radar scope.” I just hadn’t thought or dreamed about going there. Then my mother needed a “sub” for a cruise she was going on with some friends. I volunteered. Now I was getting excited. I checked out books from the library, bought books online and at the bookstore, planned shore excursions and dreamed. I decided my trip would be complete if I could get photos of penguins diving off icebergs. I did! Here they are!

I am in my bathrobe because I would sit in the jacuzzi and wait until I saw “pink ice.” South Pole penguins eat pink krill, so they poop pink. Whenever I saw an iceberg coming with a pink area on it, I would throw on my robe, grab my camera and head outside! Antarctica was foggy and unexciting at first. I saw foggy whales, seals and penguins, Then the fog lifted and it was amazing. After high seas in the Falklands (42 feet plus), we were thrilled to have calm seas in Antarctica and Cape Horn. What a trip. I am so glad I went!
